Solaris running in Xite or PCI Scope?

So far none of the Zarg synths are well-optimized for Xite environment.
But I've gotten up to 8 voices on QWave SE before getting DSP errors.
However lately I'm getting 'missing VxD' error messages when loading the QWave, so I've backed off until Ralf and the team sort it out.

VxD files can be turned into dsp files.
VxD aren't even needed so I would remove them first and just see if they still cause troubles.
If that doesn't work try turning them into dsp files.
VxD is a windows 98 carry over that hasn't been needed for a while.

Solaris just has over a thousand parameters and while we have 6 old DSP chips for compatability it seems as though we need a few more for some of the old synths.
S|C says its up to the developer to optimize this, the developers say that haven't recieved any information that would help them.etc.etc. So after a year and a half I figured they aren't going to fix it.
Since Zarg synths are so much better sonically than Creamware stock synths I dont see them racing to fix this.
However, Once I realized my original idea of using Solaris live was not going to work it forced me to learn Modular.
So it worked out fine.

I would contact JB and see if he has the Solaris Lite laying around. QWave was re worked maybe Solaris has something ready.

Prowave works great live and has been fixed a little bit too. I can use the unison detuning w/ 2 voices and 12 note poly.

Solaris works better in that it can load patches a little faster, but I would use 2 voices just to sift through the presets and select presets that use 2 or 3 oscillators, a filter and EG instead of the 8 osc 4 filtered ones.

I've already tried deleting and renaming VxD's, and somewhere in the registry or wherever, it is still looking for them when I import QWave SE.
Ralf has the SE, since I sent it to him for testing. No idea if he's even gotten to it yet.

Did you try the files I sent you...?
QWave, Solaris and Prowave function perfectly well, I have 4 x version of QWave too, 3 or 4 of Pro and 2 of Solaris.
You should dig through the dsp's I sent you.
If I have time I will see which ones they use.

Yes, I'm using whichever DSP files you sent me that weren't exact copies (including time stamp) of the files I already have.
I use Beyond Compare to do direct A/B comparison of file/folder structures.

Are you running in Win7 64-bit environment (Scope is seen as a 32-bit app.)?

Greg

p.s. look me up on Skype anytime and we can do screenshare.

Do you think that the situation could be helped by the release of the SDK so that John could do some optimisations?

I love Solaris - it's one of the most powerful synths I've ever used but it's very difficult to get working in Xite. I'd love the hardware version but - small flat = no room.

The SDK release will happen.
John's aware of the issues.

I hope a fix will happen, though. Solaris is a pure work of art that isn't matched anywhere in the hardware or software world, I think. Surely if Zarg's synths act a 'flagship' for Scope, that isn't a bad thing for Sonic Core, right? They'd shift more units.

It should have been fixed over a year ago.
But I was grateful that Holger, Ralf and JB took the time to get Prowave working with reasonable polyphony.
It was obvious that Solaris could not be used live, as the presets were taking way too long to load, and 6 voices was about all Solaris could get.
When using complex multi filtered/multiple EG's and 4-6 Oscillators, 4 voices is about it.
I was saddened at first but I am a patient chap, and JB, Holger and Ralf did strip down Prowave so I could use it live, so IMHO that's excellent customer service.
But at the end of the day, Modular IV is what the XITE-1 will use and take advantage of more than anything else we currently have.
Once I realized that I knew my days of using other synths was over. I had to learn Modular. It has been developed by several people over a decade and has endless options.
I feel I should plug Assafs classes here, becasue they save me months of trial and error, and have opened my eyes to the real strength of the XITE-1.
I understand that spending valuable resources making old synths work in XITE-1 doesn't put food on the table, so there's no sense expecting that to happen unless they have the synth and the time to actually re do others work.
I never built my own synths until 4 months ago, and all I can say is that its the wisest move I ever made.
I think S|C has made the wisest moves it possibly can considering their overhead. Modular IV or even just Modular is the path forward until S|C has the capabilty and resources to go full steam ahead.
Just my 2 cents.

FWIW, I have made excellent Combo Organs, Lead synths, Distorted TB303's and Guitars, ARP Odyssey and 2600S emulations, DX7 FM Epianos, Synth Clavinet, Oberheim Synth Pads and many high quality effects where I choose to design the exact sound and features I want.
Combine this ability in a 1U and you have an incredible system that cannot be found anywhere else in the virtual or hardware world.
The trick for fast presets and live use of Modular is to design a patch around a certain synth or effect, and then since I can load 16 good sized high poly patches, I can cover everything that the sampled content I use cant cover.
Shit..............I could go on and on, but I need to get back to patching.
Long Live The XITE-1.................... :D

Ralf mentioned to me in emails going back and forth with John that he thinks that one of the issues is the number of WAV OSC's in the synths - as it relates to the errant DSP errors. Seems there may still be issues with the QWave/Solaris osc's on the XIte.
He also mentioned something about certification of the sys files (whatever that means). Could also be something going on as we get closer to 64-bit.

So, I think it's going to take John (and maybe someone else) getting their hands on the SDK with John and working this out.
In the meantime Ralf recommended NOT assigning any of the Zargs to any particular DSP's.

If the guys can get Xor and Atze working on Xite, then I think John can sort things out.

In the meantime I'm going to build a dirt simple project with only QWave and ModIV and see how many instances and voices I can load.
